Seismic Retrofit Technique Using Plywood and Common Nails for Connections of Low-Rise Timber Frame Construction

چکیده
Since the Japanese Building Standards Act was revised in 2000, installation of steel timber connectors (STCs) to reinforce frame (TF) connections has been mandated for new-build TF houses Japan. However, built before then, more than 40% do not have sufficient STCs and are considered earthquake-prone. This study proposed a simple easy seismic retrofit technique such earthquake-prone existing houses. The can using only plywood common nails achieve equivalent performance benchmark used houses, as “CP-T type” or combination “VP “BP STCs. Experiments were performed compare with pullout full-scale in-plane cyclic tests. experimental results showed that had higher STCs, which particularly excellent displacement ductility prevent collapse house without damaging timbers. will be accepted by many carpenters when retrofitting because easy.

Seismic Retrofit of Bridge Steel Truss Pier Anchorage Connections
In assessments of the seismic adequacy of existing steel bridges, the steel-to-concrete anchorage connections typically found at the base of steel truss piers can be potentially vulnerable, having little to no ductility and inadequate strength to resist seismic demands. Many other non-ductile failure locations may also exist along the seismic load path. Failure would result in unacceptable perf...
متن کاملUsing Composites in Seismic Retrofit Applications
This report was prepared to provide a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art for using composite materials for seismic retrofit applications. The emphasis is on seismic retrofit of reinforced concrete columns. The report is presented in eleven chapters. Chapters 1–3 provide a basic introduction to composite materials, including discussions on the types of matrix and reinforcement material...
متن کاملExploratory study of high-strength, low-cost through-bolt with cross-pipe and nut connections for square and roundwood timber frame construction
Through-bolt with dowel-nut connectors are commonly used in furniture where high strength mechanical connections are required. During early periods of use, dowel-nuts were often called barrel nuts (Eckelman 1977), but the term “dowel-nut” is more descriptive, and the author has referred to them as such in the above and all subsequent publications (Eckelman 1989, 1999; Eckelman and Erdil 2000). ...
متن کاملEnergy-Based Design Criterion of Dissipative Bracing Systems for the Seismic Retrofit of Frame Structures
Direct sizing criteria represent useful tools in the design of dissipative bracing systems for the advanced seismic protection of existing frame structures, especially when incorporated dampers feature a markedly non-linear behaviour. An energy-based procedure is proposed herein to this aim, focusing attention on systems including fluid viscous devices. The procedure starts by assuming prefixed...
